Benjamin F. "Benny" Sultzer, age 89, of Lorain, passed away on the evening of Tuesday May 2, 2017 while a resident of the Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph. 
Born in Woodale, Pennsylvania on February 4, 1928, Benny had been a resident of Lorain since 1950.
He was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Corporal and Trooper attached to the 9745 Calvary during World War II; he was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal as well as the Army Occupation Medal.
He had been employed as an Assistant Train Master for the Lake Terminal Railroad Company; he retired from that position in 1989 following a career that spanned thirty-eight years of service with the rail company.
Benny was also active as a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Black River Lodge # 786 F. & A.M.
Mr. Sultzer possessed a passion for radio-controlled aircraft and built an extensive personal collection of planes; he also received a high level of satisfaction in building model planes for others including members of the Lorain County R.C. Club of which he was a long-time member. A licensed private pilot, Benny was a member and former officer in the Civil Air Patrol.
When not occupied by model avionics, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf and listening to blue grass music.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years Helen (nee MacMillan), daughter Kathy Sultzer of Amherst, and sons Edward W. Sultzer of Vermilion and Thomas C. (Antoinette) Sultzer of Lorain. He also leaves ten grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren, along with his brother James (Aileen) Sultzer of Lorain.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Mary (nee Maraugh) Sultzer, sister Helen Blaine, and brothers William and Thomas Sultzer.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. 
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend John Jackson, Chaplain for Mercy New Life Hospice presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
