Beryl Elaine Carlsen passed away February 28, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born January 23, 1925 in Lorain, Ohio to Otto and Thelma (Cleaver) Carlsen. In 1944, she married Ben "Ham" McKlveen. They raised two children, Kim and David in Cincinnati.
Beryl worked for Proctor and Gamble as a field supervisor in the product research division, and developed a love for travel. Retiring in 1986 she traveled to many foreign countries always planning her next trip. An avid reader, she was never seen without a book in her possession, having a library containing over 800 books.
Beryl loved her family being close to her parents until their deaths in the 1980's. Her brother Bill preceded her in death in 1992 and she remained a large part of his family as "Aunt Beryl" and wonderful friend to sister-in-law Peggy. In 1999 Beryl moved to Wenatchee, Washington to be near her daughter's family driving across the country with a friend at the age of 74! Beryl continued traveling, often with her son David and his wife Nancy.
Beryl had a spunky wit and always let you know what she was thinking making friends wherever she went. When Beryl developed dementia special friends were instrumental in helping her daughter Kim and granddaughter Jennifer care for her, finding the humor in whatever the dementia brought. Attending Calvary Bible Church she was loved and appreciated by the entire congregation, just the way she was.
She is survived by her children: Kim Hinson (Jim) of Wenatchee, WA, David McKlveen (Nancy) of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren: Jennifer Hinson (Wenatchee, WA), Emily Robinson (Ben) (Tacoma, WA) and Christopher Hinson (Portland, OR).
A Memorial Service was held at Calvary Bible Church in Wenatchee WA. She will be laid to rest at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, OH on Friday March 23, 2018. Arrangements are by Hempel Funeral Home in Amherst. OH. Family or friends may contact Kim Hinson (daughter) at 225-773-2213 for more information. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
