James D. "Slim Jim" Curry, 73 of Wakeman, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 30, 2017, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Jim was born July 14, 1944, in Delbarton, W.VA.. At age 8 Jim came to Lorain with his family and continued to make it his home until March of this year when he moved to Wakeman.
An industrious man, Jim worked as a dock hand for the Lorain Port Authority for many years. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a proud member of the Avon Lake American Legion Post and the Wellington Veterans of Foreign War Post. In his spare time He enjoyed playing billiards and cards.
Among those who will cherish Jim's memory is his son Cory (Samantha Walling) Curry of Avon Lake; grandchildren Aidan and Quinten; as well as his sisters, Rosa Oehlke of Lorain and Irene (Chuck) Lengyel of Wakeman, with whom he had resided the past seven months; many cherished nieces and nephews including Tina Curry; and many extended family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, James H. Curry on Oct. of 2016; by twelve siblings and his parents, Harley and Beckie Curry (nee Chafin).
Friends may call Monday, Oct 2, 2017, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday from the funeral home at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio.
