Martha Lou Keisler, 88 years of age, and a resident of Akron, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Hospice Care Center in Akron, following a lengthy illness.

She was born April 26, 1929 in Lorain, Ohio where she was raised. Martha had made her home in the Akron and Stow area for over forty years.

Martha graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1946. She continued her education at Kent State University with a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Library Science. Martha started her teaching career in 1950 at Willard High School as an English teacher and Librarian. She continued teaching English at Whittier Junior High School in Lorain. Martha was also employed as a Reference Assistant at the Business Information Bureau of Cleveland Public Library and as a Librarian at the Hudson High School. She was lifetime member of the National Education Association, Ohio Education Association, a member of the Summit County Education Association, Hudson Education Association where she served as the Hudson representative for two years, American Library Association, Ohio Library Association, Ohio Association of School Librarians and the Summit County School Librarians Association. Martha was a past president of the Hudson Business and Professional Women's Club She was an avid reader, and enjoyed music, drama and traveling. Martha was a life long member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church in Elyria, formally the First Methodist of Lorain. Her greatest joy was spending time with her extended family and friends.

Survivors include her niece Karen Borbolla (Art) of Shelby Township, Michigan; her nephew David Shamine of Raleigh, North Carolina; two great nieces and five great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Nancy K. Shamine in 2001; and her parents Elmer and Helen Keisler (nee: Beck).

A private graveside service will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
