Raymond "Bob" R. Raeburn went home to be with the Lord at Ames Family Hospice House on July 23, 2017. He died after several months of complications following surgery. He was 77.
Bob was born on March 10, 1940, in Warren, Ohio. He was raised by his grandmother, Lizzy Raeburn. Bob married Loretta Koons on July 17, 1965, and she survives in Lorain, Ohio.
Bob owned and operated "Ray's Concrete" for over 40 years. He worked hard and took pride in pouring concrete and building/remodeling new and existing structures. He was also a railroad carman for Norfolk and Southern Railroad.
He was a longtime member of The Church of the Open Door, in Elyria, where he was active as an usher, Sunday school teacher, and deacon. He was also a member of the Ambassador Sunday School class there. Bob enjoyed volunteering and using his talents on several mission trips, both internationally and in the United States.
When Bob wasn't working, he loved watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavs. Bob was often the life of the party with his family and friends. He loved his family, and he had a special relationship with his grandson, Andrew. They spent hours upon hours playing games together.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta (nee Koons) Raeburn; children, Raymond Jr. (Beth) Raeburn of Bluffton, Ohio, and Ronald Raeburn of Lorain, Ohio; siblings, Mary Ellen (Lou) Groves of Warren, Ohio, Charline (Roger) Ard of Mullins, South Carolina, David Williams of Norfolk, Virginia; grandson, Andrew Raeburn of Bluffton, Ohio; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother; his son, Richard "Ricky" Raeburn; and granddaughter, Alexandra Raeburn.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where friends will also be received on Saturday, July 29, from 10:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Bob Wickens of Church of the Open Door, in Elyria, will officiate.
