Ruth A. Rich (nee Fisher), age 89 and a resident of Amherst, passed away on April 17, 2017 surrounded by family at the Mill Manor Care Center in Vermilion following a lengthy illness. 
Ruth was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on May 10, 1927 and moved to the Lorain area at a young age. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1945 and moved to Amherst where she made her home for the past seventy years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a licensed beautician and operated a beauty shop from her home in Amherst for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and often made dresses for her daughters. She began a second career with Lorain County Human Services and retired in 1997. After retirement, she volunteered for 12 years at the former Lorain Community Hospital and New Life Hospice of Lorain County.
Ruth is survived by her children Sherry (Martin) Aschenbach, Sandra Hamm, Joseph (Cynthia) Rich and Jeffrey Rich all of Amherst; grandchildren Michelle (Troy) DiFranco, Janelle (Larry) Polonkay, Kristy (Daniel) Jenkins, Emily and Chad Rich, and Matthew and Jacob Hamm; and eight great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. 
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Esther Fisher; sisters Lois Brodka, Janet Fisher and Maxine Virgin; and brothers James and Walter "Buck" Fisher. 
Friends may call Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church on Oberlin Avenue in Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Lorain.
