LORAIN - Vernon Horton, 88, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on April 8, 2013.
He was born June 16, 1924 in Wake Forest, NC and was a resident of Lorain for over 50 years. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army and retired from U.S. Steel. He was a member of USW Local 1104 and Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Lorain. His favorite pastime was gardening and fishing.
Vernon is survived by a stepdaughter, Delmon Harris of Lorain; a sister, Annabelle Collins of Farmington WV; step-grandsons, LaVell (Milly) Harris, Adrian (Suz) Harris; step-great grandchildren, Aburey Harris, Alexander Harris, Alexis Harris and T. Delray Harris; nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Horton; his parents, Benjamin and Pearl (Spivey) Horton; and his twin brother, Thermon Horton Sr.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1516 E. 30th St., Lorain. Pastor Donald K. Young will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
